The product group released the December 2023 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.
Monthly SharePoint Server Subscription edition updates are released as a single unified “uber” package containing both the language independent and language dependent fixes. Language independent and language dependent fixes will no longer be released separately. This is similar to the full server packages released for SharePoint 2013.
The KB article for December 2023 CU will be available at the following location in a couple of hours:
- KB 5002533 – December 2023 Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition
The download for December 2023 CU is available through the following link:
It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. It will always download the same package.
After installing the fix you need to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.
Please ensure to have a look at the SharePoint Patching Best Practices before applying new fixes.

Hello, does this update fix the known issue from September CU on search index replication? https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/topic/description-of-the-security-update-for-sharepoint-server-subscription-edition-september-12-2023-kb5002474-c5869260-56d1-439b-a159-45fa38935276?

Hi IKS,
yes – it is documented in the KB article for December CU:
“Fixes an issue in which search index replication doesn’t work. This causes the index replicas to no longer be synchronized with the primary index component.”
Cheers,
Stefan

Was curious if anyone else is experiencing really long install times with the SE updates? We see this warning in the event logs continually before the patch finally completes but not sure if this is the cause or how to correct. 10010 Application ‘C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe’ (pid 18776) cannot be restarted – Application SID does not match Conductor SID..

you can resolve this using the steps and the script I outlined here:

Hi Stefan, thank you for your reply. I have the Installation running (and stuck) at this very moment, do you suggest to Cancel the update or trying to stop the services right now?
Hi Leyah, I would suggest to stop the services listed in the article mentioned above.

I stopped the services during the installation and it seems to be ok now. Thank you for the suggestion.

Hi Stefan,
After we installed December 2023 CU for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition, and we run the SharePoint products config wizard without any error, by in CA->Upgrade and Migration->Review database status, the ProfileDatabase show “Database is too old and upgrade is required”, the UPS does not show any data.
I’ve searched the Internet for a long time, many articles say to execute “PSConfig.exe -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -force -cmd applicationcontent -install -cmd installfeatures” or “Psconfig -cmd upgrade -inplace b2b -wait -force”, but I’ve tried, in our environment this does not help..
Do we have any solutions to this problem?
Hope your reply,
Thanks
