August 2023 CU for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition is available for download

The product group released the August 2023 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

Monthly SharePoint Server Subscription edition updates are released as a single unified “uber” package containing both the language independent and language dependent fixes. Language independent and language dependent fixes will no longer be released separately. This is similar to the full server packages released for SharePoint 2013.

The KB article for August 2023 CU will be available at the following location in a couple of hours:

  • KB 5002437 – August 2023 Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition
This is also a security update!

The download for August 2023 CU is available through the following link:

It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. It will always download the same package.

After installing the fix you need to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.

Please ensure to have a look at the SharePoint Patching Best Practices before applying new fixes.

  1. Hi Stefan!

Since the first cumulative update we have problems when installing it every month. With the first cumulative updates the language independent file gets stuck or takes a very long time. After we cancel it and reboot the virtual machine, the language dependent file is working and also the rest of the update process. With the uber package we have the same behaviour. This is happening on a single server environment and also on multi server environments. Do you have any idea what the problem could be?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Rene,
I have not seen this behavior. Installing the fixes takes some time but always succeeds on my machines. If you need assistance to get this isolated I would recommend to setup a repro in a virtual environment with snapshots to ensure that it can be easily reproduced and open a ticket with Microsoft support to get assistance with the analysis.
      Cheers,
      Stefan
