April 2019 CU for SharePoint Server 2019 is available for download

The product group released the April 2019 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server 2019 product family. SharePoint Server 2019 is patched with a language dependent and a language independent fix.

The KB article for April 2019 CU will be available at the following Location in a couple of hours:

  • KB 4464518 – April 2019 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language independent) – This is also a security update!
  • KB 4462221 – April 2019 Update for SharePoint Server 2019 (language dependent)
  • There was no fix released for Office Online Server this month

The download for April 2019 CU is available through the following link:

Important: It is required to install both fixes (language dependent and independent) to fully patch a SharePoint server. This applies also to servers which do not have language packs installed. The reason is that each SharePoint installation includes a language dependent component together with a language independent component. If additional language packs are added later (only) the language dependent fix has to be applied again.

It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. Even the language dependent fixes are all in the same package for all languages.

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2019 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.

SharePoint 2019 April 2019 CU Build Number:

Language independent fix: 16.0.10343.20000
Language dependent fix: 16.0.10343.20000

    1. Hi Rogério,
all updates are cumulative per component.
Means you only have to install the most recent language dependent and the most recent language independent fix.

  1. Hi Stefan, what has to be installed first •KB 4464518 or •KB 4462221. Do you have any feedback if this CU’s need some fixes. Thank you Juan

    1. It does not matter which one you install first.

  2. Dear Stefan.

Do you mentioned in the article that:

,, Be aware that only a language independent fix was released with April 2019 CU. The most recent language dependent fix was released with February 2019 CU”

And in your comment you sad: ,, you only have to install the most recent language dependent and the most recent language independent fix “”.

So when i have a SP 2019 environment without CU installed and i want to upgrade my environment with the latest CU.What i need to do:

I need to install the April CU (dependent+independent pack) and because this packages are uber packages , i will fine.
I need to install the April CU (dependent+independent pack) and the February CU (dependent+independent pack).
I need to install the April CU(independent pack) and the February (dependent pack)

    Thanks in advance.

    1. Hi Tuboly,
sorry for the confusion! Only April CU is required – no older fix. There was incorrect Information in my blog post which I have corrected now.

  3. Dear Stefan,

I want to migrate SP 2010 & SP 2013 webapplications on to SP 2019 onprem.

Is it good to go with SP 2019 at this time when CU updates have already started coming in from MS means is SP 2019 stable now for production environment and MS support is available for SP 2019 at this point of time .

…Or we should migrate to SP 2016 instead of SP 2019 ?
…Or is it good to wait a bit more for letting SP 2019 more stable?

I am creating a clear rationale list to say yes for SP 2019 and no to SP 2016 as a target SP platform/version…

    1. Hi Deep,
SharePoint Server 2019 is build as a port from SharePoint Online. So that means the product was running since a Long time inside Microsoft datacenters before the Code base was used to build SharePoint Server 2019.
So this was a very mature product already on release day.

      Personally I would recommend SP2019:
      – We have several fixes which were implemented for SharePoint Server 2019 which will not be backported to SharePoint Server 2016.
      – SharePoint Server 2016 will run out of mainstream support in July 2021. That is just 2 years from now. I would not start migrating to a System which is that near to end of Mainstream support.

      1. Thanks Stefan …so no need to wait for SP1 for Sharepoint Server 2019 … Thanks

        1. There are (currently) no plans for service packs for either SP2016 or SP2019. So waiting for a service pack would be a never ending story.
