  1. after installing this SPWFM CU to a separate SPWFM server getting error below (probably related to the new SQL client)

“Could not load file or assembly ‘System.Memory, Version=4.0.1.1’ … ”

This happens on every operation (wizard run, get-wffarm any other commands etc.)

  2. Hi, We built a new farm just as this change was happening, so my farm is on SharePoint Workflow Manager 16.0.15601.20418 (3/9/2023) with service bus configured. In order to install the August update I have to be on SharePoint Workflow Manager 16.0.18526.20518. In order to install 16.0.18526.20518 I have to be on 16.0.18526.20316. I am having trouble finding instructions on how to get from my original version to 16.0.18526.20316 so that I can install the May 2025 update (16.0.18526.20518) so I can install the August update. The article for SharePoint Server 2019 September patching indicates that I must have the latest SharePoint Workflow Manager installed or workflows won’t run and workflows are a huge part of what we do.

If you could point me in the right direction regarding how to accomplish this, I would really appreciate it. I have never updated SharePoint Workflow Manager and am concerned that if I don’t do this the right way I will lose in progress workflows and will have to republish hundreds of workflows.

    1. Hi Donna,
it seems you are mixing “SharePoint Workflow Manager” and “SharePoint Workflow Manager Client”.
Both have to be in sync.
In my blog post I list both downloads, “SharePoint Workflow Manager” and “SharePoint Workflow Manager Client”
      Cheers,
      Stefan

  3. Hi,

Suddenly I have a strange problem after applying the aug Workflow Manager Patch on a Sharepoint 2016 server.

I followed your instructions fixing right versions of dll:s and i got it all running. I had some trouble getting the related services to run. Service Bus Messsage broker didnt want to start at first but after a while it started by itself. I noticed that all the Workflow related services had been changed to Automatic(Delayed Start)? Is that included in the wf patch?

I didnt notice i had problems with 2013 workflows until i created a new workflow and as soon it was triggered its stuck in “Not started” and the initiator is “Anonymous”. When investigating why i found that “WorkFlow Manager Backend Service” is failing to start. At restart it stops immediately.

Do you know if its a known issue after installing aug WF patch?

    Regards,
    /Micke

  4. Hi Stefan,

This update will not install with SharePoint 2016 on premise. Is there another update file for non-subscription versions?

Thanks for your response. I’m getting There are no products installed that this update applies to.

        1. Hi Shawn,
please confirm that you install SharePoint Workflow Manager and not Microsoft Workflow Manager.
This update is for SharePoint Workflow Manager.

If you indeed have SharePoint Workflow Manager installed, then there are two possible reasons for this error:
          1) the fix you are trying to install is already installed
          2) the Windows Installer Cache is corrupt. For SharePoint we have a way to fix it but unfortunately not for SharePoint Workflow Manager. The only way to resolve it would be a reinstallation of the affected products.
          Cheers,
          Stefan

  5. Stefan,

Is there a known issue with FBA after the Sept. updates? My Forms Based users cannot reset their passwords.

    1. Hi Shawn, I haven’t heard about such an issue.
      Cheers, Stefan

      1. FBA passwords are sometimes encrypted with Machine Keys in some scenarios.
So rotating MKs invalidates saved pass hashes – there is a need to reset all passwords.

  6. Hi Stefen,

I’ve installed all the missing dlls but now I’m getting following error, Add-WFHost failed to configure. I can see Service Bus is configured but not Workflow Manager services:

Add-WFHost : Keyword not supported: ‘asynchronous processing’.
    At line:1 char:1

    1. Hi Brijendra,
this is a known issue some customers are running into. It requires a direct database modification to get fixed.
Please open a ticket with Microsoft Support as we need to ask the product group for approval to perform the database modification.
      Cheers,
      Stefan

  7. Hello,

Can we directly apply the latest CU from October for both the client and the manager on a farm running version 2.0.40131.0 for the manager and 2.1.10607.2 for the client?

Thank you very much for your response.
