August 2024 CU for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition is available for download

The product group released the August 2024 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

Monthly SharePoint Server Subscription edition updates are released as a single unified “uber” package containing both the language independent and language dependent fixes. Language independent and language dependent fixes will no longer be released separately. This is similar to the full server packages released for SharePoint 2013.

The KB article for August 2024 CU will be available at the following location in a couple of hours:

  • KB 5002629 – August 2024 Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition

The download for August 2024 CU is available through the following link:

It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. It will always download the same package.

After installing the fix you need to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.

Please ensure to have a look at the SharePoint Patching Best Practices before applying new fixes.

  1. Hi,

On task lists, most of the ribbon buttons for the timeline web part have stopped working in modern browsers. We can no longer set the date range, display as a bar/callout, etc.
Using Edge in Internet Explorer compatibility mode it works through.
Can you confirm this and do you know when the issue will be resolved?

    Best regards,
    Nicklas

    1. Hi Niklas,

I’m not aware of a customer escalation on this topic.
Without a support case the issue will not be investigated.

If this is a concern for you, please open a ticket with Microsoft support.

      Cheers,
      Stefan

  2. I can confirm the behavior. Some buttons only work in Edge’s IE mode.
But this can also be observed in a Sharepoint farm with July patch build 16.0.17328.20424.
Maybe an older problem or the cause is an Edge update

Isnt’t there an Aug 2024 CU for SP 2016? Though we could fix the bugs introduced in July 24 CU will get fixed with this.

    1. Hi Job, there is no August CU for SP2016. The fix you are looking for is planned for September CU.

  4. Hello Stefan,

do you know if the german translation error with Properties – Immobilien / Eigenschaften, is in this CU? (or maybe I missed it in the KB)
In the May CU you commented, it will be possibly fixed in August CU.

    Thanks

    Best regards

    1. Hi Martin, I have already tested the August CU and can confirm that some german translation errors including Properties – Immobilien / Eigenschaften have been fixed. Unlike Full Control – Vollsteuerung / Vollzugriff under Websiteberechtigungen -> Besitzer der Website.

      1. Hi Marc,

thanks for the feedback, good to know.
Strangely for us it is still called Vollzugriff like in the past (we are running May CU), maybe the other errors came in between May and July.

        Best regards
        Martin

  5. SharePoint Server Subscription Edition August 2024 CU Build Number: 16.0.17328.20478

Listed as 16.0.17328.20510 on the “Manage Patch Status” page on a test system of mine, and that is also the version number of the current patch package (exe file).

  6. Hello,
Another problem since installing this update:
When opening a document in Word (or Excel) and then choose ‘Save as’. In the ‘explorer’ window that opens you will now receive script errors. There is no problem when connecting to SP servers where this update has not yet been installed.
I will open a case immediately.

    Regards,
    Johan

    1. Hi Johan,

this issue has been reported for July 2024 CU as well. So it’s not a new issue in August CU.

      Stefan

      1. Correct, July 2024 recently deployed on our farms and the save-as script error issue was reported days after.
Will this be fixed in the next CU?
        Thanks

          1. Hi,
I can confirm that the script error is resolved in the October 2024 CU.

          2. Just deployed this weekend October 2024 CU / SPS SE and it seems the script error does not appear any more.

            Thanks

            Juan

  7. Hello,
We have similar issue reported by Johan. Installing July CU or August CU 2024 didn’t resolve the issue.

  8. Am getting access denied when opening word documents and excel after october patch .is it happening to any one else, is this something related to patch?

    Reply

    1. Hi Vikram,
which October patch do you mean? This blog post is about August 2024 CU, not October CU. In addition October 2024 CU is not yet available. So are you referring to October 2023?
Then please post your question as a comment to the relevant blog post.
      Thanks,
      Stefan

        1. Hi Vikram,
afaik this is not a known issue. Does that happen when opening the documents in Office Online Server or in the client application?
          Cheers,
          Stefan

          1. when trying on Client Application Stefan and users are unable to download checkin checkout documents and Excel, when checked on uls logs it states this “Handling access denied for non browser request. IsOAuth: ‘False’.” and it is intermittent to the users.

          2. Hi Vikram,
please see this sentence in my article above: “It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. It will always download the same package.”
The language dependent fix contains fixes for all language packs. You never have to select a specific language.
            Cheers,
            Stefen
