April 2023 CU for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition is available for download

The product group released the April 2023 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition.

Starting with March 2023 CU, Microsoft releases cumulative updates for SharePoint Server Subscription edition as a unified “uber” package containing both the language independent and language dependent fixes. Language independent and language dependent fixes will no longer be released separately.

Going forward it will be sufficient to install one single package to fully patch a SharePoint Server Subscription Edition server. This is similar to the full server packages released for SharePoint 2013.

The KB article for April 2023 CU will be available at the following location in a couple of hours:

  • KB 5002375 – April 2023 Update for SharePoint Server Subscription Edition
This is also a security update!

The download for April 2023 CU is available through the following link:

It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. It will always download the same package.

After installing the fix you need to run the SharePoint Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.

Please ensure to have a look at the SharePoint Patching Best Practices before applying new fixes.

  1. A note to my fellow SharePoint engineers: I was unable to create a new search service application with this CU (powershell in endless loop). After researching and trying several things, I saw that there is a known issue with search in this CU:

  2. Since a Few Updates I always have the Problem that the Update says it cannot restart some service
Application ‘C:\Windows\System32\inetsrv\w3wp.exe’ (pid XXXX) cannot be restarted – Application SID does not match Conductor SID..
I tried to start the update as different users (which are all sharepoint admins) but none of them worked. The update only sometimes offers me the option to restart on my terms. What else can I try? Is there maybe a flag i can set in the console to set it so i can restart on my terms?

    Thank you

Ps I already Asked this question in an earlier post but never got an answer. Maybe I get an answer this time.

    1. Hi Markus,

I haven’t seen such an issue. It seems to be an issue with an account but it is not clear to me which account. If you need assistance on this I would recommend to open a ticket with Microsoft support to get this analyzed.

      Cheers,
      Stefan
