Page Diagnostics tool for SharePoint Online Version 2 has been released

The Page Diagnostic Tool (V2.0) is a browser extension for Chrome and Microsoft Edge version 77 and later that analyzes both SharePoint Online modern portal and classic publishing site pages.

New in Version 2 is support for Modern Portal Pages.

The tool does not make any changes but rather highlights recommended practices. Reducing the server time and load on SQL within SharePoint is an important part of maintaining consistent performance with SharePoint and in particular SharePoint Online especially considering the performance optimizations Microsoft has made. The tool will highlight some of the optimizations and recommend utilizing these available resources.

Each recommended practice also has a “more info” link to direct you to the right resource to assist you.

More information on how to use the tool can be found in the following article:

This extension supports SharePoint Online and is not designed for SharePoint on-Premises.

You can download the extension from the Chrome Browser WebStore through the following direkt link:

  1. Is there an equivalent version for SharePoint on premises?

    1. Hi Luigi,

there is currently no equivalent tool for SharePoint on premises but you can open a thread in UserVoice to request a similar tool for SharePoint on premises or to enable the existing tool to work with SharePoint on premises:

If the idea gets upvoted by other users the idea will be considered.

see my parallel response to Luigi: ensure to request the functionality through UserVoice or vote an existing request up if you have a need for this.

  3. The only downside is that one of its major recommendations is not available to a majority of tenants. It recommends enabling the CDN which is not possible when a vanity domain is added (which I would guess is the majority of tenants that are using Exchange) even though you cannot use that custom domain with SharePoint Online.

Is it envisaged at some point in the future that the CDN can be enabled when the tenant has a custom domain attached to it?

    1. @greg, I think you misunderstand vanity domains because in SharePoint online 99% of customers do not have a vanity domain as it is not a supported option. Check your actual domain utilized in SharePoint. The SharePoint domain and Exchange custom domain are not related. Your SharePoint domain is derived from your OnMicrosoft domain name. I suggest opening your SharePoint URL and reviewing the domain.

      1. No I don’t believe I have.
According to https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/office365/enterprise/use-office-365-cdn-with-spo, “The Office 365 CDN does not currently support tenants configured with custom or “vanity” domains. If you have added a domain to any component in your Office 365 tenant using the instructions in the topic Add a domain to Office 365, the Office 365 CDN will return errors when you try to access content from the CDN.”

  4. Thanks for the response but SharePoint does not have vanity domains at all except for very few Customers that had them in our old dedicated service. The article is ambiguous so is being corrected. Only Exchange and Skype have the option of vanity domains currently and the article refers to O365 domains so that note will be clarified shortly.

    1. Thanks for the clarification Scott. It certainly was an odd “caveat” to using the Office 365 CDN.
