July 2019 CU for SharePoint 2010 product family is available for download

   It is kind of a silly question. But why SP 2010 CU files are sometimes called wssloc2010? The are supposed to be uber packages. Correct?

   Hi Fedor, this change was done for SharePoint 2010 several years ago. The uber package for SharePoint Foundation contains the same content as for wssloc2010 and for that reason the PG decided to simplify the packaging and always release the wssloc package as CU. But the uber packages for SharePoint Server 2010 and Project Server 2010 always have the name ubersrv2010 and ubersrvprj2010.

      Thanks for the article!

      We have SharePoint Foundation 2010 in our env.
      Is this correct order of patching:
      – install ubersrv2010-kb4475508-fullfile-x64-glb.exe which is according KB is CU.
      – install wssloc2010-kb4475510-fullfile-x64-glb.exe which is security update patching specific issue about SAML tokens bypath vulnerability and it does not include fixes included in ubersrv2010-kb4475508-fullfile-x64-glb.exe like KB4464571 and KB4461611.

         Hi Igor,
         ubersrv2010… is for SharePoint server – not for SharePoint foundation.
         For SharePoint Foundation you should only apply the wssloc2010… fixes.

            ”
            This cumulative update package contains all the .msp files that we released as hotfixes or as public updates that target SharePoint Server 2010. This update package also targets SharePoint Foundation 2010. Therefore, you don’t have to install those packages separately.
            ”

            Is this statement wrong?

   So our patch team incorrectly installed the Foundation (4475510) patch this month to our servers and we run full Server edition. We tried to install the server update (4475535) and get message ‘no products affected’. Does the foundation package also include the server bits now?

      Hi Allison,
      for SharePoint 2010 we only release security fixes. The only security fixes released in July were for SharePoint foundation. SharePoint server Uber packages include the most current packages for SharePoint Foundation and SharePoint server. If your previous patch level was June 2019 CU, then the only package changed in the Uber package is the one from SharePoint foundation as no new fixes were created for other components of SharePoint Server.
      If you would have installed the foundation patch on top of May 2019 CU you would have been able to install the SharePoint server fix as we release security fixes for SharePoint server in June which would apply.
      Hope this clears things up.

   Thank you! We patch every month so that makes sense now. Also we have one more question regarding 2016/2019 patching when there is also a language dependent package. (Like April KB4461507) Is there a reason these are not available in the Microsoft Update Catalog?

      Hi Allison,
      from my understanding the Microsoft Update catalog only shows security fixes. The language dependent packages rarely contain security fixes.

   HI Stefan,

   I have a question about patching SharePoint 2010. We are using Build to Build Update Playbook approach for our SharePoint 2016 environment which works great for us. Can we use the same BtoB approach for SP2010? Which is after installing the binaries, we will run the update-spcontentdatabase before running the PSConfig

      installing the binaries, upgrading the content databases and then running PSConfig can be done on SP2010 as well.
