The product group released the December 2017 Cumulative Update for SharePoint Server 2016 product family.
This CU also includes Feature Pack 1 which was released with December 2016 CU and Feature Pack 2 which was released with September 2017 CU.
The KB articles for December 2017 CU are available at the following location:
- KB 4011576 – December 2017 Update for SharePoint Server 2016 (language independent) – This is also a security update!
- KB 4011578 – December 2017 Update for SharePoint Server 2016 (language dependent fixes)
- KB 4011020 – December 2017 Update for Office Online Server 2016 – This is also a security update!
The download for December 2017 CU is available through the following link:
- Download December 2017 Update for SharePoint Server 2016 (language independent) – This is also a security update!
- Download December 2017 Update for SharePoint Server 2016 (language dependent fixes)
- Download December 2017 Update for Office Online Server 2016 – This is also a security update!
Important: It is required to install both fixes to fully patch a SharePoint server as each SharePoint installation comes with a language independent component and a language dependent component. If additional language packs are added later (only) the language dependent fix has to be applied again.
It is irrelevant which language you pick on the drop down in download center. Even the language dependent fixes are all in the same package for all languages.
After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2016 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm. If you prefer to run the command line version psconfig.exe ensure to have a look here for the correct options.
SharePoint 2016 December 2017 CU Build Numbers:
Language Independent fix: 16.0.4627.1000
Language Dependent fix: 16.0.4627.1000
To understand the different version numbers please have a look at my article which explains the different SharePoint build numbers.
You can use the SharePoint Server 2016 Patch Build Numbers Powershell Module to identify the patch level of all SharePoint components.

Hello Stefan,
I could not find any SharePoint 2010 December 2017 SharePoint Server 2010 CU and office web apps. Are they not released for Dec 2017?
Thanks,
Florencio.

Hi Stefan,
when I try to install December 2017 Update for Office Online Server 2016 I get the following error message:
“The expected version of the product was not found on the system”
The currently installed version is 16.0.7601.6800.
What are the prerequisites for the December patch?
Thanks,
Thomas

I tried installing Dec 2017 CU (sts2016-kb4011576-fullfile-x64-glb) on SharePoint 2016 farm . After running Psconfig , it says 100 percent completed but got “Configuration of SharePoint Products failed at the end.
Error”Attempt to register null pointer at: at Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPHierarchyManager.AddNextLevelObjects(Object current, IEnumerable nextObjects) at Microsoft.SharePoint.Upgrade.SPHierarchyManager.Grow(SPTree`1 root, Boolean bRecursing, SPDelegateManager delegateManager) ..”
Also the build number is showing 16.0.4618.1000 under system settings . Not sure which build is this ?
After running SPproductinformation.psm1 , showing below

Hi MP,
as configuration wizard did not complete successfully it is unlikely that all configuration steps have been completed.
You should open a support ticket to get your system analyzed in all details to understand what went wrong and what the current state of your farm is.

Stefan

Hi
I tried to apply KB4011020 over an existing installation of OOS ( previous patched version) and it simply reported “The expected version of the product not found on the system” . After a number of attempts I got a colleague to download a version on the VL site ( under Office Pro Plus) . This did install and now I can see I have OOS ver: 16.0.8471.8525
