The product group released the January 2016 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.
For January 2016 CU we have released only fixes for Project server. The fix below is a full server package (also known as Uber package). No other CU is required to fully patch Project Server. To patch SharePoint Foundation 2010 or SharePoint Server 2010 installations to the latest patch level please install December 2015 CU.
This CU includes all Project Server 2010 fixes (including all Project Server and SharePoint 2010 security fixes) released since SP2. The CU does not include SP2.
The KB articles for January CU should be available at the following locations in a couple of hours:
- There is no January 2016 CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010
- There is no January 2016 CU for SharePoint Server 2010
- KB 3114556 – Project Server 2010
The Full Server Packages for January 2016 CU are already available through the following links:
After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Hi Stefan,
You noted
The KB articles for December CU should be available at the following locations in a couple of hours:
There is no December 2015 CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010
There is no December 2015 CU for SharePoint Server 2010
Isn’t this supposed to be related to the January 2016 CU ?
Thanks.

Thank you Stefan.
There is something I don’t quite understand:
At the beginning of the article you state: “For January 2016 CU we have full server packages (also known as Uber packages). No other CU is required to fully patch SharePoint.”
Then a bit lower in the article:
There is no January 2016 CU for SharePoint Foundation 2010
There is no January 2016 CU for SharePoint Server 2010
Will the info be updated once the KBs and download sources become available ? Or there is no January 2016 CU for SharePoint 2010 ?
Thanks.
Andy.

Hi Andy,
thanks for the hint!
The only fixes released in January are for Project server. And for this we have a full server package.
I have cleaned up the wording of the post to make this clearer.
Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,
I am running Sharepoint 2010 server farm with no project server. So do I need to install this update?
Thanks,

Hi Stefan
We’re currently on SharePoint 2010 SP1 with Aug 2011 CU
Microsoft SharePoint 2010 Service Pack 1 (SP1) 14.0.6029.1000
Hotfix for Microsoft Office Server (KB2687353) 14.0.6105.5000
I would like to upgrade to SP2 (and Aug 2013 CU), can you advise on which is the latest CU to go to so we can be as up to date as possible on security and fixes, I cannot find anywhere that gives advice on which CU to apply
Thanks for all the blogs and advice 🙂
