July 2014 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released

The product group released the July 2014 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Yes, you are reading correct! The July 2014 CU. The bi-monthly CU release cycle is gone. The product group is now releasing CUs every month rather than every other month.

Be aware that the July Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP2 hotfix. It is recommended to have SP2 installed before installing the July CU.

This CU includes all SharePoint 2010 fixes released since SP1. The CU does not include SP2.

The KB articles for July CU will be available at the following locations in a couple of days:

  • KB 2883026 – SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 2883005 – SharePoint Server 2010
  • Be aware that no project server related fixes were released in this CU

The Full Server Packages for July 2014 CU are available through the following links:

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2010 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

  2. Hi Stefan , Sorry to ask same question (I asked with June 2014 CU as well) but I couldn't find list of issues fixed with this CU as well. Does it always takes some time to update that section , as without knowing the issues that has been fixed , its very
difficult to decide if we should go with this hotfix or not…..

  3. That includes another cumulative updates? Or includes only updates from last 2 months?

  5. Is there a reason why the SharePoint Updates page on Technet doesn't list this yet? Is this also included in WIndows Update? We ran into an issue where July 2014 WIndows update was applied to two of our SharePoint Servers and hadn't been applied to the
others yet and it broke Excel Services on those two servers. The WIndows Systems Engineers now will exclude SharePoint updates from normal WIndows Updates so we can test these before applying.

  6. I think that we should instal SP2, JUNE,2014, JULY CU 2014 , and August CU (individual packages) becuase JUNE CU contains patches for project server 2010.

  10. Hi,

Can you help me providing small information.

I have installed Share Point 2010 SP2 and then installed April 2014 CU and while installing I got error message saying some components required are missing, I have finished installing the CU with some workaround "Bypass check=1" and the installation completed.
Now I came to know that I got that error message as I have skipped installing SP2 for my English & French Language packs. Can I go ahead and install the SP2 for the language packs now or is it going to get affected in any way as I have already installed April2014
    CU?

Can you please let me know asap?

  11. Hi Diwakar,

you should never use this switch without being advised by Microsoft Support.
The message that components is missing should always be taken seriously and the missing components must be identified and installed before installing further fixes.

Yes you can install the missing service packs now and it should work – but be aware that it will not help you to determine if any other components are still missing.

If you get the message about missing components again in the future ensure to resolve the issue before installing the fix and avoid using the bypass switch. If you cannot idenitfy the missing component by yourself I would recommend to open a support case with
    Microsoft.

    Cheers,
    Stefan

  12. Thank you for the update. Sure I will follow this advice for any future upgrades, that was a mistake happened by following some blogs when I got the issue and I was not aware of these language packs. I haven't observed any issue with my custom websites
which are running on my test servers since I have upgraded(almost 2-3 months). Since then I have deployed the code couple times(of different releases)and didn't find any discrepancy and the sites are good and I didn't had any functional impact. Otherwise it
should have been resulted in some issues by this time.

    Thank you.

    Diwakar.
