SharePoint 2013 language pack SP1 "slipstream" installations are now available

One missing piece in the SharePoint 2013 SP1 release were slipstream installation files for the language packs.

These should be available soon on download center on the following link:

Currently you will only find the english language pack there due to delays in localization of the download center information but you can already download all the language packs using the direct links below.

Stefan, I'm clearly not as wide awake as I should be but I can't see in this article anything about a slipstream installation and when I go to the first link it looks just like the completely normal SP1 Language Pack and not any slipstream version.
So please explain what I'm missing!

Hi Mike,

I used “slipstream” in quotes to show what it means.
These are the language packs which include SP1 already.
They are no service packs for the language packs.

Thanks Stefan. Your explanation is clear and understandable. I do think that the title used in the download page ("Language Packs (SP1) for SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 ") isn't as clear.

Now that I have your explanation I know what it means but imo I think a better title on the Microsoft page would be "Language Packs for SharePoint Server 2013 SP1 " because the addition of "(SP1)" just makes you think it is a Language Pack SP1. Better still a text there using your words – "These are the language packs which include SP1 already.
They are no service packs for the language packs.." Better additional text on that page than confusion!

Hi Stefan,When i click on the link for SP1 LP (eg:
http://download.microsoft.com/download/E/2/4/E2463D12-D04E-4EB7-A333-0117403D0797/ServerLanguagePack_x64_ro-ro.img) ,it looks like this is base LP version ? After installing in control panel ,under Installed updates also there is no reference of SP1 LP being installed. Is this expected ? Shouldnt the file name be ServerLanguagePack_SP1_x64_ro-ro.img instead of ServerLanguagePack_x64_ro-ro.img ?

in a perfect world the file name would contain “SP1” – but we do not live in a perfect world.

Thanks Stefan for the clarification 🙂 .As in control panel under installed updates ,it does not have LP SP1 reference ,just wanted to make sure.One last question ,as MS has pulled out SP2013 SP1 patch & also LP SP1 is not available (http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817438 ) ,please confirm if the Slip stream SP1 patch version is not impacted by the issue mentioned in the link "http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817434" & http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2817438

I can confirm, that at least the above download for "ServerLanguagePack_x64_de-de.img with SP1" does NOT include SP1. It shows Build Version 15.0.4420.1017 which is RTM, whereas Sp1 LangPack is 15.0.4571.1502

I just double checked and the language pack you mentioned has MSIVersion=”15.0.4569.1506″. That is SP1.

Hi Stefan, my SP2013 farm (SP1) has French language pack RTM. Based on this posting I am trying to install French language pack SP1 by running setup.exe. Is that the right thing to do?

When I run the setup I get an error msg, which is in French, "Le package d'installation source pour le produit 'Microsoft SharePoint Foundation 2013 1036 Lang Pack' n'est pas synchronizé avec le package client. Essayez d'installer à nouveau en utilisant une
copie valide du package d'installation 'wssmui.msi'."

When I searched this online people referred to a mismatch between the setup files in the language pack RTM and SP1.

Thoughts?

Hi John,

you cannot install the language pack with SP1 on top of the language pack. You need to install SP1 for the language pack instead:

I have 5 language packs installed on my SP 2013. we are planning to upgrade to SP1 now. Does it means I have to install Sharepont 2013 SP1 followed by Language Packs SP1 for all Languages??

You can use 7zip or Winzip to extract an IMG to a drive. Then you are fine, and all files appear to break out like you expect. I just did it locally then copied the break out of the folder to the servers but you could do it on the server if you have a
winzip or 7 zip or alike tool on the server.

Keep in mind, you must install each language separately, so get a list from your business customers first before doing all of them!!! It's a long list to download.

I just checked both pages for Language Pack with slipstreamed SP1 and standalone SP1, and for some reason Bosnian is missing from the available downloads (bs-BA). Is there a specific reason why its not included? What would be the consequences of running
SP2013+SP1+Sep2014 CU with LIP for SP2013 (non-updated)?

Hello ,
We have SharePoint 2013 SP1 August CU 2016, Version : 15.0.4797.1000 . We want to install couple of Language packs on our environment. We want to ask if we have to install Language Pack Sp1 for our version e.g https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=42082 or normal Language pack without Sp1 e.g https://www.microsoft.com/es-ES/download/details.aspx?id=37140
Can you please suggest as per our version.

  of course you can use the language packs which already include SP1.
  Be sure to repply August 2016 CU again after installing the language packs to patch the language packs also to this CU level – otherwise you would have an unsupported mix of builds in your farm.

    I am sorry as the Patch level is Feb CU 2016 and not august CU as earlier mentioned . Also , do you mean to say that after installing Language Packs binaries and running psconfig first , i have to reinstall Feb CU 2016 binaries and run Psconfig again? If yes , do you have any article which is explaining this concept. Appreciate if you provide the link for the same.

      Correct. You need to reinstall the CU.
      but you only have to run PSConfig at the very end.
      We don’t have a specific article on that but think about it:
      Our CU includes fixes for all language packs. If a language pack is not installed the relevant fix is not installed
      If you install the language pack later you have to reapply the the fix to ensure tha the new installed language pack also get patched to the level of Feb CU.

        And another Thing i would like to ask is
        Since we have installing Language Packs + reapply current CU again , hence thought coming in my mind to install Latest CU after Language packs SP1 rather than old CU like Feb CU 2017. Will that work ?

        If we want existing CU reinstallation , then do we have to uninstall them first and then reinstall or we have to directly run binaries again without uninstalling.

        It is impossible to uninstall SharePoint fixes.
        Just apply them again. They will detect the new language pack and apply the relevant fixes correctly.

        Like you have said we have to reapply current CU after installation of SP1 Language pack . Don’t you think while reinstalling Current CU , we will get message ” There are no products affected by this package installed on this system” and it will not allow us to continue or reinstall current CU or it will go ahead since language packs are just installed as new products?

        you would get that if there is nothing that needs to be updated.
        As you installed a new language pack there is something that needs to be updated – so you will not get the message.

We are installing language pack for SharePoint 2013. Our farm is running SharePoint 2013 with SP1 and Sept 2015 CU.
We are getting an error that “One or more required office components failed to complete successfully” while installing language pack.

The components are showing different version as our SharePoint build version is 15.0.4753.1003 and SharePoint has SP1 installed (15.0.4571.1502). For other language packs which are installed already has the same version (15.0.4571.1502) for all the components.
Any idea?

  You installed the RTM version of the language pack and not the one with SP1 included.
