December 2013 CU for SharePoint 2013 has been released (updated)

The product group released the December 2013 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2013 product family.

Be aware that all Update for SharePoint 2013 require March 2013 PU for SharePoint 2013 to be installed first.

Please also have a look at the article that discusses how to properly patch a SharePoint 2013 farm which has Search enabled.

ATTENTION:

Previous releases of the SharePoint Server 2013 cumulative update included both the executable and the .CAB file in the same self-extracting executable download. Because of the file size, the SharePoint Server 2013 package has been divided into two separate downloads. One contains the executable file (identified as ubersrv2013kb2850024fullfilex64glb), while the other contains the .CAB file (identified as ubersrv_1). Both are necessary and must be extracted to the same folder to successfully install the update. Both are available by clicking the same Hotfix Download Available link in the KB article for the release.

See the KB article of the SharePoint Server CU for more details.

KNOWN ISSUE:

After installing the SharePoint 2013 Server December 2013 CU PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer no longer loads. When you try to open Dashboard Designer in SharePoint 2013, you receive an error message. You should not install the SharePoint Server 2013 CU listed below if you need PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer.

See the KB article of the SharePoint Server CU for more details.

The KB articles for December CU will be available at the following locations in a couple of days:

  • KB 2849961 – SharePoint Foundation 2013 December 2013 CU
  • KB 2850024 – SharePoint Server 2013 December 2013 CU
  • KB (cancelled) – SharePoint Server 2013 with Project Server December 2013 CU – see project server hotfixes below
  • KB 2850013 – Office Web Apps Server 2013 December 2013 CU

Due to packaging problems there will not be a combined SharePoint Server and Project Server package for this CU. Customers with Project Server 2013 need to install the SharePoint Server 2013 fix above plus the following fix:

  • KB 2837668 – Project Server fixes

The Full Server Packages for December 2013 CU are available through the following links:

The Project Server Package for December 2013 CU is available through the following link:

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2013 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU.

  9. The "KB 2849988 – Project Server localized fixes" link does not work (redirects to homepage), and http://support.microsoft.com/kb/2849988 is about the Project Server 2010 hotfix package.
Same goes for the "Download Project Server 2013 localized fixes December 2013 CU" link, this also goes to a Project Server 2010 download.
    I can't for wait for SP1!

  10. You are right. The project localized fix is for 2010. You can ignore it for 2013.

  11. Excuse my ignorance on this, but I'm only used to cumulative updates including both SharePoint and Project Server. Because the December 2013 CU for SharePoint doesn't include Project this time around, do I need to run psconfig after installing the Project Server hotfix as well? I've installed the hotfix in my test environment, but it didn't give me any indications. Thanks!

  12. You need to run psconfig only once at the very end after installing all fixes.

  19. I noticed that there is a known issue with this CU of PerformancePoint Dashboard Designer no longer works after applying this fix. Is there a workaround for this is are you just dead in the water with PerformancePoint Designer?
