October 2013 CU for SharePoint 2010 has been released

The product group released the October 2013 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Be aware that the October Cumulative Update for SharePoint 2010 is a Post-SP1 hotfix. That means that you should ensure that SP1 is installed before the October CU.

The KB articles for October CU are availabe at the following locations:

  • KB 2825824 – SharePoint Foundation 2010
  • KB 2825786 – SharePoint Server 2010
  • KB 2825793 – SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server
As you see there is a separate Full Server Package for SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server which simplifies patching of this common installation.

The Full Server Packages for October 2013 CU are available through the following links:

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2010 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU. And the SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server CU contains Project Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2010 product family.

Existing Configuration is SP1 + Dec CU 2011

I tried KB 2825793 – SharePoint Server 2010 with Project Server. Can you please assist me on this.

  4. Hi Ponnarasu,

common reasons for this error are:

    – Only SPF SP1 is installed but not SharePoint Server SP1

    – SP1 for a language pack is missing

    – SP1 for a language pack for SPF has been installed but not for the language pack of SharePoint Server.

Please check that SP1 has been installed for all components.

If the Problem still occurs I would recommend to open a Support case.

    Cheers,

    Stefan

    3) We have Office Web Apps Installed so duringat the Time of Software upgrade of SP2, We have to install Office Web apps Service Pack 2 also ??

    4) What should be the order of installation

-Language Pack– Binaries- Office Web apps —> Then Psconfig …?? Am i rite

  10. We have a strange issue after installing October 2013 CU in our test farms (3 different ones). The "Edit My Profile" in all 3 My Sites is now broken. The issue (found in the ULS logs) is that suddenly the My Sites App Pool account is attempting to login to the Search Admin database and it does not have rights there. Manually adding it corrects the problem. Our Production farms are on SP2 Aug CU and they are fine, with no rights for the app pool account to the Search database. Any ideas what changed this?

  11. I would recommend to evaluate December CU and of the issue still occurs to open a support case to get this analyzed.

  14. Hi,
we are thinking about if it makes sense only to install CU Oct 2013 without installing SP2, assuming all Updates of SP2 are included in CU Oct 2013.

    Is this the case?

  15. Hi Hans,

a service pack not only installs fixes – it also defines a baseline for future fixes.
If SP2 is not installed you will come to a point where future CUs will not be installable because the required baseline does not exist on the system.

    Cheers,
    Stefan

  17. One last question about this issue: Is it possible to Slipstream the Service Pack 2 and CU Oct 2013 to get it installed in one turn? I only found articles about slipstream the installation package with some cu. But nothing without the installation package.

  19. Hello Stefan,
We have a current version of the farm 14.0.7108.5000, with SP1 + Oct 2013 CU. And we now have the requirement to upgrade the farm to SP2. Please let us know if there will be any challenges if we upgrade the farm to SP2, on top of Oct 2013 CU? I understand we
should have done SP2 and then Oct 2013, but as its a miss, can we do SP2 now ? Do you see any challengesissues doing this. Let me know your thoughts.

  20. Hi Pradeep, that should work fine. Just ensure to install SP2 for the core product and for each installed language pack.
