April 2013 CU for SharePoint 2013 has been released

The product group released the April 2013 Cumulative Update for the SharePoint 2013 product family.

Be aware that all Update for SharePoint 2013 require March 2013 PU for SharePoint 2013 to be installed first.

The KB articles for April CU will be availabe at the following locations in a couple of days:

  • KB 2751999 – SharePoint Foundation 2013
  • KB 2726992 – SharePoint Server 2013
  • KB 2775426 – SharePoint Server 2013 with Project Server
  • KB 2799821 – Office Web Apps Server 2013

The Full Server Packages for April 2013 CU are available through the following links:

After installing the fixes you need to run the SharePoint 2013 Products Configuration Wizard on each machine in the farm.

Be aware that the SharePoint Server 2013 CU contains the SharePoint Foundation CU. And the SharePoint Server 2013 with Project Server CU contains Project Server CU, SharePoint Server CU and SharePoint Foundation CU.
That means only one package has to be installed for the SharePoint 2013 product family.

  1. Hey Stefan,

    thanks for the great information!

I'm unsure what to do with the *.cab file in the SharePoint Server/Project Server package.

For slipstreaming, I would extract this file and put in the updates folder.

But what about patching an existing installation? Did I quick search but was unable to find anything. Any hint?

    Thanks,

    Helge

  2. The cab file is actually used by installing/extracing, it contains some msp files that are for some reason not in the exe file. However, you cannot slipstream this CU (or unlikely any CU until SP1) because of the dependency on the March Public Update. You need can put the PU in the Updates directory, but putting this CU there would overwrite msp files which the CU requires to be installed before in order to install. Also, extracting this update is very slow, can take from 1-2 hours..

  6. Hi Stefan,

A maybe silly question here. I understand that SharePoint Enterprise Server includes SharePoint Server which includes SharePoint foundation. If I have SharePoint Server, do I need to apply SharePoint foundation updates, or does SharePoint server updates also
    contains Foundation updates already?

    Thanks.
