Internals of how Minimal Download Strategy (MDS) works in SharePoint 2013

I was planning to write a blog post about how MDS works when I noticed, that there is already an article which explains it very well. So rather than producing duplicate Content I decided to just link to this article:

  1. the link give the following error:

server received an invalid response while acting as a gateway or proxy server.

There is a problem with the page you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed. When the Web server (while acting as a gateway or proxy) contacted the upstream content server, it received an invalid response from the content server.

  4. Considering the fact that Publishing does not support MDS, would you it be prudent to veer away from Publishing sites altogether then?  I suppose my question is this.  Given the major performance boost that MDS could yield on Team sites, would there be any outweighing reason to stay with Publishing sites?

You have any idea how to enable Minimal download strategy on whole site collection including sub sites?
