Picks of the week – 46/2011

During my daily work I quite often find an article which highlights interesting things which I would like to share with you on my blog in the Picks of the week category.

Here are the picks for this week:

  • Whitepaper: Delivering Business-Critical Solutions with SharePoint 2010
A new whitepaper discussing how to increase access to critical backend business data by surfacing it in SharePoint 2010, enhance the effectiveness of business processes by building on SharePoint 2010 and using its platform capabilities, deliver fast return on investment (ROI) by lowering business risk, decreasing training costs and enhancing compliance.

  • Processing items with Work Item Timer Jobs in SharePoint 2010
This article discusses SPWorkItemJobDefinition timer jobs which can be used to queue items from inside a worker process to a timerjob without a need to have access to the configuration database where configuration data for timerjob is usually stored. SPWorkItemJobDefinition timer jobs are (e.g.) used with Variations, page scheduling, workflow and many other features.

  • Event handler to archive items when deleted
A nice article providing a sample to auto-archive list items on deletion

  • Using a centrally manageable custom masterpage
A nice article explaining how to dynamically bind a configured master page using a http module without having to configure it in every site or site collection

  • SharePoint 2010 Provisioning A New Farm with PowerShell
This article provides a step-by-step description on how to configure a farm using powershell without a need to run PSCONFIG. This is especially helpful if you need full control over the database names used which are automatically generated by PSCONFIG.
