Is your SharePoint 2007 farm already on Service Pack 2? If not, read this!

Here is some information from the Microsoft lifecycle page for WSS 3.0:

Windows SharePoint Services 3.0 Service Pack 1 11/12/2007 Support ends 12 months after the next service pack releases or at the end of the product’s support lifecycle, whichever comes first. For more information, please see the service pack policy at https://support.microsoft.com/lifecycle/#ServicePackSupport.

WSS 3.0 and MOSS 2007 SP2 has been released on April 28th, 2009.

Based on the above listed information support for SharePoint servers without SP2 will end on April 28th, 2010. Be sure to evaluate Service Pack 2 now if you have not yet done and ensure to install it before the deadline.

As we had some support cases on this in the past: be sure to install SP2 not only for WSS and MOSS but also for all installed language packs for these products.

  1. People probably have more time than this because the file I received from my TAM (Support Lifecycle 10-14-09.xlsx)says that WSS 3.0 SP1 is on mainstream support until Q2 of 2012.

  2. Hi Sylvain,

I don’t know this XLSX file but somethings seems to be wrong with it. At least the fact that it talks about "mainstream support".

For service packs there is neiher mainstream nor extended support. That only applies to the product with the latest SP. Not for an individual SP.

  3. Good post , but please come on , we are still running SharePoint Server 2003 with MCMS 2002 and support department says , we are good for another 2 years.Plus do you have any idea on how to transform asp(not asp.net) applications to SharePoint 2003 , they were written some time back in 1998 , they are simple as they does not use any database instead we use our custom Excel 97 providers to store data in Microsoft Excel files. Lastly , does SharePoint 2003 or any other version of it provides support for COBOL , as all our documents will be in SharePoint we need to have some reporting so may be we reuse our COBOL code to linked in it.

    Thanks,

    Regards

  4. Hi Venjki,

you are right. SPS 2003 and MCMS 2002 are both in extended support which will end in roughly 2 years.

ASP applications cannot be easily converted to SPS 2003. You have to reimplement the logic using ASP.NET and SharePoint object model.

    SharePoint does not support Cobol.

    Cheers,

    Stefan
