Migrating MCMS database to MOSS 2007 – Host header mapping enabled

As discussed earlier I received a long list of warnings and errors when running the premigration check. Another entry in my list is a warning of this type:

Host header name to channel name mapping is a nice feature in MCMS to allow root level channels to be mapped to the root of a web site.

As MOSS 2007 implements that in a completly different way it makes sense to show this as a warning in the migration log.

The details of the event entry explains this:

But what it does not explain is HOW to enable this feature in MOSS 2007.

Actually real root level URLs for managed content is no longer available in MOSS 2007. You will always have a URL like this: http://www.mydomain.com/Pages/default.aspx

There is no way to get rid of the additional level “Pages” in the current version.

At least you you will be able to enter http://www.mydomain.com in your browser and MOSS 2007 will then redirect you to the default document in the pages library. This is similar as if you had a default.aspx file in the root of your website that redirects to the start channel in MCMS if you couldn’t enable the map channel name to host header name feature in MCMS for some reasons (e.g. because you were using the standard edition or had sharepoint installed on the same website).

  1. Hey Stefan – inspired by your blog entries, I thought I would run the migration tool on our database:

      * It crashes when analysing the code (index out of bounds error) – I can skip that one template and it works

      * It runs out of memory (on a 4 gig machine) when analyzing the database (which is around 6 gig)

Do you know where I should direct this feedback?

    Thanks,

    Shaun
